Isuzu MSA Gearbox Oils and Gear shifts

Thought I was going to report first failure of a Isuzu GB jumped out of 2nd on over run three times in 200 meters felt like a broken detent spring turned out to be the 3" square block of foam rubber under the boot had worked its way thru the hole in the tunnel and jamming against the seat box Easy fix:D Apart from that the Gearbox and shifter worked out very well I run 10 -40 same as the engine and well tested to 180kph:D:wasntme:

180 - honest? This is the 4bd1t and msa5 or some 6 speed?

Yep Nup 4.7 L SOC 4he1t MXA 5R 3.0 diffs

Thanks Ancient. What's SOC mean - speed overcomes commonsense? :)

Just sunk in, i think, single overhead cam?

That way if there's a leak (being an unknown box) you're not throwing out good stuff when you sort the leak out.

Filled it with vmx80, will take it for a run tomorrow. No leaks so far, rear main turned out to be leaky side cover running down the back of the flywheel housing:)

VMX 80 worked a treat, much better to drive, 1st is still like a non synchro box, but I can live with that:D

My understanding was that they are practically only a 4 speed box, with an additional very low (and generally unused) first gear.
Just pretend its an LT95 with a funny shift pattern and all will be sweet :D

I actually use first all the time. With the 1.003 transcase, 3.54's and 285's, it works quite well, hey I even got the speedo spot on:)

Yeah I use 1st on mine only as a creeper gear. Start in second even when towing.
I suspect the lack of syncromesh on 1st is intentional to stop it being grabbed accidentally.

So how does it go on the move when you want a quick throw from 2nd to 1st on a hill descent?
