    4BD1 flywheel housings

Today I salvaged the 4BD1 out of a Perentie which I have decided to use instead of one out of a ?Stage 1 that I already have. Unfortunately it is missing a few components so instead of salvaging them off the Stage 1 engine I decided to check out a dismantled 4BD1 I bought a few years ago.

To my initial dismay I find its a truck engine with engine number starting in 106***

However for my MSA conversion the flywheel housing may be of use.

Can anyone recognise this housing and will it fit a MSA-5R?

Does the conversion use the truck flywheel or a Land Rover one. I ask because the truck one looks to be 3" or 4" thick????

You won't find me on: faceplant; Scipe; Infragam; LumpedIn; ShapCnat or Twitting. I'm just not that interesting.

Check Grubbs thread on the MSA conversion Diana, but I am almost 100% sure the truck flywheel housing plus flywheel and clutch is the one you need for that conversion.

In the MSA thread it shows the original Land Rover flywheel housing/Land Rover flywheel needing a spacer: (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/isuzu-land...ml#post1221290)

I would imagine the truck flywheel housing and Land Rover flywheel would bring the MSA bellhousing into about the same alignment?

You mean the land rover flywheel housing plus spacer.

Yes thats exactly what I mean.

The truck flywheel housing and Land Rover flywheel will be (about) the same thickness and clutch alignment as the Land Rover flywheel housing, adapter ring and Land Rover flywheel.

Remember the truck flywheel I have looks to be about 3' or 4 " thick so would even protrude from the truck flywheel housing, so the MSA bellhousing would be too stumpy to fit the truck clutch etc.

My truck flywheel was know where near that thick, wasn't much thicker than the landy one, was just larger in diameter I think. I run the msa with truck clutch, flywheel and flywheel housing.

Will take a photo when I can get to it, Currently sitting under the block on a pallet with all the internals and accessories in milk crates on top and in front.

It was very dark and I was looking with a torch, so if I'm wrong its the pressure plate on the flywheel making it appear so thick.

    Wasn't wrong, so not stoopid!

It is a flywheel about 4" thick.

That one must be off a generator or marine engine rather than a truck.

Nice score though. If you can work out a way to run it you will certainly smooth out the torque pulses. Those running high boost may be interested in buying or swapping.

Irrespective of selling the flywheel, would it be possible to run a Land Rover 4BD1 flywheel inside the Isuzu flywheel housing above to mate to an MSA-5R?

Even if I have to use a Landy starter.
