    wiring mods for internal reg.

    Hi all,
I am the first to admit i am crap at wiring...

I am installing an internally regulated alternator. Someone previously posted a how-to and pic which i printed, but cannot find the thread. However my wiring is different (see pic),and seems consistent with the 110 county diagram.

In short - what do i need to connect to where?

    my wiring is in blue.
The new alternator only has 2 terminals in a t-configuration. An auto sparky told me the bottom of the T is the terminal that should be connected to the light, but of course a 110 county has an Ammeter instead of a light...

This is the other thread where the diagram came from. It is a stage 1 so no surprises the wiring is different.

The 6 pin plug diagram in black is obviously a mirror image to the one in blue. Just run a connection from the y/b wire at the 6 pin plug to the terminal on the alternator that's for the charge light. None of the other small wires should be needed. That wire has been the charge light wire on every British Leyland product I've ever worked on. If you don't have a working charge light you'll have to rig one between this wire and the ignition. You could use the ignition wire at the 6 pin plug if you wanted to, plain white is ignition.

Thanks bee utey. Makes more sense now I have had a proper look at the county wiring diagram (attached).

I suppose I was confused by all the wiring mods that captainslow did. So I don't need to bridge any wires at the plug?

So what is the difference between the 2-terminal (plus main power feed) alternators like I have and the 3-terminal (round plug) type that many have fitted?

Bump! I also want to know the difference between a 2 pin and 3 pins connector? (Plus charge terminal).

My new alternator has a charge terminal (big wire) and a 2 pin connector. One of them I assume is the charge light. The second I'm a bit confused whether it should be "Sense" or IGN. If it's Sense, then why not just jumper it to the charge terminal? And why wouldn't that be done internally in the alternator?
