    New engine?

So after the adapter shaft debacle, i have decided to build/rebuild a few things.
Diffs, brakes, everything else is done, transcase is next as i'm changing ratios, gearbox needs 2nd gear synchro so will do the whole box.
So the motor is my conundrum, mine goes fine, has a few leaks that need attention, but it is a N/A running 25 psi, which i'd like to crank up abit more.

SO, do i build my spare N/A motor with alfin pistons OR find a T motor and freshen that up, or find a reco?

Obviously money comes into it to some degree, but at the end of the day i would be happy not to spend over $6k on it, the less the better as i need to run some through the business and some without the wifey knowing😉😉.
Don't need a turbo and manifold as thats all new.

    Ideas anyone?

In December last year Isuzu in Bunbury WA had complete genuine rebuild kits for $850 for the 4BD1.
For that price I doubt it would have been for graded piston and liners but overall a good price.
I would be checking camshaft and oil pump drive gears and also the exhaust valve guides if it had an exhaust brake in a previous life.

If it was me I would freshen yours up Damien, add the piston squirters when you do the liners/pistons. If you know yours is good that would probably be the best way to go. Finding a T motor in good condition would not be easy these day and finding a new "genuine Japanese" T motor would be nigh on impossible.

Both motors I have came from series 111 stage ones so no exhaust brake.
The rebuild kit, do you know if they were with the Turbo pistons?

I can keep looking for a T motor, but the first and only place I tried wanted $5500 for a good secondhandy.

Thanks Brian, the two motors I have, the one in my rangie which has approx 100,000 k from new (series111), and the other motor I have a has been rebuilt and has 228,000k on it from memory. So both in good order, I was just wanting to make sure it was capable of handling the desired boost and the treatment I plan on giving it.

Btw, sorry but still haven't got around to sending those bits yet, sorry

Damien, if your second engine has been rebuilt there's a chance it's already got the Alfin pistons in it (unless you know for sure it doesn't).

Didn't the turbo engines also have an upgraded oil pump which then became standard on the NA engines post '88?
I'd be fitting one of those too if installing squirters.

A good 4bd1 na motor will cost $1500 plus shipping so for the extra $1000 you are getting all the turbo set up
Sounds good but depends on km's and where the motor came from.
The turbo in the ex army T is not very good apparently

Its a truck motor, 89 model I think, approx 250kk. If I could get $1000+ for my spare na motor with less K's on it I'd be happy. My NA motor being a rebuild may have alfin pistons, but I'm not pulling it down to find out, will be in the markets soon, but done my back (found out I'm too old to take up skateboarding again unfortunately), so can't move it to clean it and take some pics
