    Turbo pipe route

    Hi all,
I have now got my motor back in and ready to plum in the turbo.
    Couple of questions.
The turbo has a 50mm oulet and the manifold inlet is 63mm, would it be any better to run 2" tube and transition to 2 1/2" at the inlet or start with the reducer and use 2 1/2" the rest of the way?
I havn't got the bonnet on yet so not sure of clearance, but I assume the shorter over the motor would be better than going around behind the motor under the air filter or will it make bugger all difference?

I dont think it will make much difference either way but would like to be on the good side of any difference.

    G'Day Albert,

You'll find that it is likely someone has an off the shelf adaptor for your turbo and manifold - the trick will be to know what you have in terms of the 'Type Class' that they are referred too.

    T25/T28

    T3

Are these the ones you have (dimensions in inches....)? If so, you need a T25 to T3 adaptor. You'll find off the shelf options by searching around google or ebay.

It is likely that you will be able to route your piping over the top of the head without causing bonnet clearance issues unless you have some form of intercooling in the way. That said, it wont be too much of a difference to go under the air filter... just more work required.

    Thanks Flagg,
I have bought a XS adapter and made my own 3" dump pipe.
The only things left I have to do is the turbo air side plumbing including a new air filter housing to fit and join, join dump pipe to old 2.5" system, gauges to fit and put the dash back together. Sound easy when I type it out
I have 4 more days off before a planned trip away And the local auto shop only has a few hose bends and joiners, not enough in each size to do the job. Will have to take a day off work to drive to the coast shops to get some. I think tuning will be done on its maiden trip going south.

Transition at the Turbo with either 2x2.5" silicone bend or straight connector off ebay 3 or 4 ply

I put some foil on top of motor and closed bonnet. Worked out 64 mm clearance. So will be either a flattened out 2" or round the back with 2.5" depending on what super cheap have in stock.

I have been taking pics as I go but never spent the time to work out a easy way to post pics on here.
Supercheap only have 63mm 45deg bends in this shop, so will use my old snorkel tube, which is 2 1/2" mining hose. Will flatten it out some how.
It will be ugly but will work,
The turbo intake is a odd size at 56mm, I cant find anything around here to fit except for some pvc pipe that is close. I will make it fit or at the worst I will get a simple pod filter until I get back.

The turbo intake is very close to 2.25", although a 2.25" silicone hose is a bit looser fit than I'd like, but will probably seal up OK once clamped.

I'm still trying to decide whether to go around the back and under the air cleaner or over the top. Have probably got enough fittings to go either way now...

    Looking forward to your pics.

Found in plumbing supplies to join filter to turbo,, a 90mm joiner and a 90-50 reducer. It would fit WELL, if I didn't have a S111 heater unit in the way.
No 2" silicone bits local, so will use a 2.5" strait piece and let it hit the bonnet and flatten out for turbo to inlet..

I've never understood why people have so much trouble posting pics.

    1. Create a new thread
    2. Scroll down until you see the Manage Attachments button.
    3. Click it
    4. When the new dialogue box opens, Browse for an image on your computer. Select it.
    5. Upload the image.
    6. Repeat as necessary (up to 5 images per post
    7. Submit the new post
    8. Done

Note: if your images on your computer are too big, you'll have to resize them first. I usually resize to 800 pixels on the long side.
