Hi Marc, Easy fix mate, they are just a return spring and nothing to do with the governor. Part number is 5157231340 for both of them. Cheers...Brian
Gday all,
Long time no post. Sorry I couldn't find out how to subscribe to post :P
But basically my 4BD1 powered Series 2a is going strong. Did Adelaide to Uluru via Flinders, Oodnadatta track, Simpson and didnt miss a beat.
UNTIL.. we got back to Adelaide and we had a real cold day and the idle went a bit strange in the Landy. First i thought i was cause the oil may have gotten a tad thin in all that traveling. But today driving down the road to work, I accelerated to 2500rpm and she stuck there. I depressed the clutch so i could slow down, and after a few taps of the accelerator it dropped to 1200rpm (but can get stuck again).
Upon investigation tonight i found the spring/governor? on the diesel injector pump has broken, and i guess the secondary spring is in the process of failing as well.
So the question i have are;
What are these springs called?
Where can i get new ones? (I cant seem to locate a part number)
Thanks in advance all.
-Marc

Yes, it's an Isuzu part number so the truck dealer should be able to order it in, but from my experience they usually want to know what model Isuzu truck it is in. When you tell them it is in a Landrover they just look stunned and then say they need a model number. I just say "Okay 1988 NPR with 4BD1 engine"![]()

the equivelent springs are in GJ kits they are a pain to change so while you still have a good one if you pull up at a repco they will be able to source you a pair of similar ones.
they are not critical spec items their primary job is to over come pedal and cable drag/pressure for return to idle. IMHO you're better off erring to the side of more tension than less an shorter springs over longer ones.

Thanks guys, popped into the Isuzu truck center down the road, the parts should be here Tuesday.
Now are there any tricks to changing them, From a quick look around inside the engine bay its hook the spring in to the front plate, then undo the circlip/splitpin and thread the spring loop section onto the post, put a spacer and repeat. Minimal space in there for all this :P. guess super long nosed pliers needed, or is it a "take the manifold off" job?
I have a bunch of photos, videos and timelapse of my time away :P Just need to sort through them and put them somewhere, Can link you when done if your interested.
You'll need a set of baby sized arms and some long nosed pliers - that's it.

It is a lot easier to do if you remove the intake hose and elbow from the manifold
Gives you a bit more space

Ahh yes spot on both front and rear are hooks.. sweet, easy to remove.. but new ones im sure will have a few hours of swearing lol..
Anyone replaced the tubes that go over the springs? (part 8941711250 with official or unofficial parts) or the white rings that go into the bracket at the front of the car. Just the tubes look a little old and crusty and the white rings one is now missing (was thinking i could just use a piece of rubber fuel pipe in there or something, i guess its used to stop the metal cutting into the spring?).
Thanks again guys.
