I have used Baldwin but generally now prefer Sakura (Indonesian) for price.

Baldwin is an old brand now made in US, Mexico and China.

I don't think any known brand filter importer is going to bring in junk as the financial consequences for them would send them to the wall.

Baldwin is up there with Donaldson in their reputation.

Had no issues in the last 10 or so years with them on TDIs, 3.5/3.9 and a host of Henry's finest

    Baldwin are excellent filters,

I was after a Z141 equiv and given a Sakura , I googles a review on Sakura before using and it was not favourable, cut it open and its absolute rubbish ,

I have no issue using Ryco or Baldwin oil filters. But Ryco offer full involuntary warranty if any damage is attributed to their filter, so I prefer to use them.

    Baldwin are OK IME.

I would however use any of Donaldson / MANN + HUMMEL / Fleetgard (Cummins Filtration) in preference though.

Some things to note about the filter industry:
    1. Most reputable companies (i.e. those mentioned above) guarantee their filters are "as good or better than" OEM. Likely one of the 3 companies above will be the OEM manufacturer.
    2. Many companies (e.g. Donaldson) don't make filters for car engines as they don't believe they need serious filtration and the margins are to small in the car industry.
    3. Companies that only make filters for cars are best avoided (e.g. a certain company starting with R (or parent company G) that is available in most "cheap" auto parts shops.

    Just to add....
When I was in the MEWP (Mobile Elevated Work Platform) and crane industry I used Baldwin filters for many years, never had failures as apposed to other industrial brands that suffered the odd failure (splitting etc). To further that we used to have less failures of other components that relied on correct/good filtration such as counter balance valves in hydraulic systems.

I continue to use Baldwin on all Jeep and Land Rovers I service, again the only failures have been with other brands. Failures cost reputation & time, not to mention inconvenience to the customer.

And as most Baldwin fuel/oil filters are red, it surely makes a Land Rover go faster...

    Regards

I used to work for an Ag dealer that supplied and fitted Baldwin filters.. IMO they used to be good, but over the last few years, they are no longer US made.. We had issues with warning lights coming on no hydraulic systems, and my VW started to rattle on start up.. Reverted to Fleetguard and Mahl (when I can get them) and the rattle went away.
