    4BD1 Injectors

    G'day

Can anyone tell me if there is a difference between turbo and N/A injectors?

I can get hold of some exchange N/A injectors; when I asked if the parts bloke knew of a difference he put it in the too hard basket and I haven't heard back since

I'm running a N/A engine with aftermarket turbo and was planning on fitting turbo injectors to suit?

    Thanks

Hi mate yes there are differences however you really need to swap out the pump too as pressures and timing etc are different for factory turbo engine. In my opinion i would stick with the injectors that are designed for the pump characteristics they work fine as long as they are in good shape.

No worries, will stick some N/A ones in then.

This set have done 370,000km and I'm starting to notice a drop in fuel economy, higher EGTs and more black smoke it's all pointing in one direction

I also noticed this problem since installing the turbo. Can't for the life of me figure out why...

Ha ha mine had done 600k+ and after fitting the new ones noticed marginal difference . Turned out that a broken compression ring on number 1 will also lessen power and ruin economy.. who would have thought??? 😮 😅 anyway it went for a further 150k like that...

I'll agree with you there, fuel screw and right foot may be part of the problem. I've gone from about 13L/100 to 16-18 so it's either injectors or something else weird.

At the moment I have the money to do the injectors so consider it preventative maintenance

be careful, some places only stock the turbo injectors.

the easy spot is the nozzle hole count but the injector crack pressure for the turbo injectors is also a bit higher, this can be recounted on the existing injector pump but you are better off fitting the turbo pump if your going to chase it.

fortunately a crack pressure test and adjust is all of 5 minutes work per injector.

its almost but not quite cheaper to replace instead of renozzle and adjust the 4bd1 injectors but I expect with the number of them that will be out and about in the next few years with people doing more on them locally that may drop to 50/50 either way.

Just had a thought, I changed air filter just after my last big road trip. Went from a Baldwin to Fleetguard. Baldwins are fully encased with mesh, Fleetguards are half mesh half tin plate with a plastic hiclone setup. Reckon that's probably my problem there. I have a modified air filter housing so the hiclone was removed from the filter prior to fitment.

    Will still do injectors though

Mate should only make a difference when driving hard i would've thought . However by definition extra dust extraction = less airflow.
