Yes the vehicle needs boost and EGT gauges no question. I can confirm however that the compressor turbine is now offering more resistance to turn by fingers than before, and the intake hose is not collapsed, and the throttle travel is sorted and secure. The gauze screen at the lift pump is not checked at present so can't comment on that.
Turbo is to be pulled today- kit ordered. Update soon.
Also need to identify and adjust the fuel rack screw. I'll do this after boost and EGT gauge is fitted. Going to go the el cheapo fleabay route for these. Costs already somewhat out of hand....

Update. Turbine overhauled- kit indicated above only half suitable- cause though to be bit of gum up from oil sitting in galleries of the cartridge over a lengthy period.
Drive to QLD- after about 600km, the warbling noise came back. At 1130am just south of Taree, gave the engine an oil change. Noise disappeared some 200km north and hasn't come back.
Screwed the fueling rack set screw out one full turn- now have some sort of boost so don't have to change down on many hills now. Fuel use about 578km per tank (a little over 600 if I ran it dry).
Temp sender on motor not communicating with the original gauge so will retrofit a 300tdi sender unit and see if that sends reasonable information. Thermal handheld laser tool indicates no more than 71 degree C at the oil housings, no more than 82 degrees at the water housings and upper hose, and no greater than 370 degree C at the exhaust and manifold/turbine sections- most often less but this is crude/inaccurate way to check thermal state (exhaust temps) so comments about this are expected..
Haven't fitted EGT or boost gauge yet.
