    Factory non-Wastegated turbo?

Is anyone running one with the IP tuned up?

My current turbo is boring me a little and I've heard some good things about this one so looking for a cheap experiment.

    What are peoples thoughts?

    Cheers,

    Bad

Which turbo are you talking about - the TB 2518
I have a 1998 6X6 with the standard TB2518 non wastegated and I have wound the fuel screw out 1 turn and am happy with the bit extra I have gained. Only a small increase in fuel consumption.

Yes sorry the TB2518 is correct.

The problem I have is real world comparisons. I must have the only turbocharged 4BD1 4x4 in the country!

Oh wait there is Dougal, but he lives miles away...

AND he doesn't want to talk on here anymore!!!!!
I had a County 4BD1 for many years with a Garrett T3 0n it and it was spectacular performance wise, much better than the 6x6 with the TB2518 but then again the 6x6 weighs 3.5T compared to the County around 2.5T. You really don't need a wastegate, all you need is a pyrometer and a responsive right foot

Do you remember what Garret it was? Have you driven any with KLR kits?

The Nissan TD42 factory turbo is a straight swap for my current one. I might try and get my hands on one and see how it goes.

I was reading the TB2518 doesn't have good early boost (nothing until 2k rpm), is this accurate Bearman?

No, haven't seen any of the KLR turbo kits up this way. Can't remember what the T3 specs were for the one on the county. It was done by Mike Vine Turbocharging in Brisbane. The TB2518 on the 6x6 is a pretty good match if you are not going ratio changing. In reality they have good pulling power down low with the 4.7 diffs and only need the turbo later in the rev range for highway work and I have found that adding a bigger exhaust and tweaking the fuel a little helps it breathe better - I wouldn't bother changing mine.

    Turbo

Hi Ive posted on this subject previously and can only suggest that you try and find someone with the KLR kit fitted and go for a test drive and I guarrantee that youll stop messing around with poorly performing stock turbo systems.
I purchased the KLR system for my Perentie and fitted it myself and am in awe of the performance improvement and would be more than happy to let interested parties to test drive it but unfortunately I live in SA so its not much help to you in NZ

    Cheers

Have you driven any other turbo combinations?

It's not economical to get a KLR kit sent down here.
