    Justin,
    The standard replacement for the 45A alternator is the Hitachi 70A LR170-401 (which has an internal regulator).

    This may just fit. The banjo on the rear of the vacuum pump is pretty tall. The measurement from the rear of the adjusting bracket to the end of the banjo is 190mm (see below)

    I hope to conclude this soon - still haven't replaced my alternator! Although I have bought a new one that *sort of* fits.

    Do you think the angle of the vac pump drain is all that important? Just like in Vern's photo above, the vac feed and oil drain underneath are at about 45* rather than straight up and down like they would be with that alternator on the correct vehicle. What about if the vehicle is on a close to 45* side angle....the drain will be horizontal then. Is that a big deal?

    Damien, how is yours going? Is yours about 45* like in your pic above?



    I'm thinking it doesn't matter, as my understanding is the vac pump pushes the air it sucks down into the oil drain. To me this means, worst case some oil ends up in the vac feed towards the brake booster will get sucked back out again and down the drain a short time later. The vac feed has a decent down hill run to the vac pump, so if my theory is right, and some amount of oil went into the vac line, gravity would send it back into the vac pump anyway, then presumably the pump would send it down the 45* oil drain...

    12V 120amp Isuzu N Series Holden Rodeo Jackaroo Diesel Vacuum Pump Alternator | eBay

    I fitted one like this with some modifications to oil return, vacuum supply and power feed cabling and used the v belt pulley of my old 4bd1T 6x6 engine alternator minus one bush to match profile. Fit wasn't perfect but it could have been if I adjusted things with more effort (the alt mount holes a bit oversized for the bracket)so it - I ended up finding why my old alternator failed when a split washer fell out of it (I assume that it 'fell in' to the guts of it in a previous setting). Ended up returning the item (you pay the money and expect a perfect fit) and put my old alternator back in. When it dies at some point I'll find one like this and go to the effort of fitting because it's a 120amp item and that's useful.
