4BD1T oil cooler cover housing wanted.

    G'day all,
I'm posting this here because it's so specific to Isuzu's.

My oil cooler housing has a corroded hole in it big enough to need replacement.
I have a spare one off a N/A but I notice there are some differences which might make it incompatible.
As you can see in the picture, the bolt pattern for the cooling element is different (indicated by the red arrows) I do have the matching element with the cover but I'm not sure if there's some difference with the block which would cause it not to fit.
The other difference (indicated by the yellow arrows) is the blanked off hole on the turbo cover and the absence of the lower tube (I'm guessing this is a oil pressure valve housing)

So, is anyone familiar enough with these to know whether I can fit the N/A cover and element to a turbo block and just blank off the hole.

Alternatively does anyone have a spare turbo oil cooler cover to sell. This would be my preference.

I can get a new one, but they only come as a set (cover and element) at $700+ for genuine.

    Thanks for any help.

    Cheers, Murray

Is there any difference in the cooler elements other than the one flange orientation?
I'd be half expecting the turbo element to have more tubes or something, and the change in flange orientation to make sure you couldn't fit the NA one in accidentally.

Just checked out what ivd got in the shed, and looks like the difference might be year related rather than NA/turbo.
I've got a late NA block (1990ish) that has the same housing as the my turbo block which of the same age. Both are from trucks.
Engine in the '88 120 has the same housing as your NA photo.

From the engines I've seen, it seems they cast late model (~89>) N/A and Turbo blocks the same and then machined and bolted on the appropriate bits and pieces. For example, late N/A blocks have the machined surfaces where the oil squirters, turbo oil return etc go, but they're not drilled unless it's built as a Turbo engine. So, there could be a lot of other common components between N/A and Turbo, probably to streamline production.

It makes sense that the turbo oil cooler element might be bigger, to cope with extra heat generated from lubricating the turbo and pistons (oil squirters)

This is the N/A element I have.

Murray it might be worth contacting Grant Draney from GWD enterprises in SE Qld. I am away from home so can't access his contact details but a google search should find him. He did have a lot of Isuzu parts that he bought from ex army auctions some years ago and I know he had some oil coolers complete as I bought one off him. Not sure whether he has any left but would be worth a try.

    Thanks Brian,
I managed to get a good used one in Melbourne, Steve's picking it up for me, but that number might come in handy for who knows what.
