They run fine on mineral oil. 15 - 40 diesel engine oil is the go, from engine to transfer case.
Hi. I know there has been a lot of talk about what sort of oil to run in the lt 95 box. Whether to use a modern oil or remain with a motor oil.
Approximately 20,000ks ago I rebuilt my gear box & transfer case in my 6x6. I am a motor cycle mechanic by trade. I was advised by the people that I was buying the parts from to use VMX80 & I had read that some members were using it as well so I went with it. As the K's ticked by I noticed that it was getting a bit hard to down shift into 2nd, then it was getting hard to go into 1st from a stand still. So I gave it a oil change VMX again. 1000 to 1500ks later it was next to impossible to get it into 1st when the box was cold or even after 20 ks of driving. Thinking that the box would have to come out again to fix what ever I had done wrong was not a nice thought, but then I read on here that somebody had trouble with VMX in 2nd gear. So I changed to Penrite 20-60 as their site said & gave it 500Ks. I could feel it was getting better to use, still not right. So I then went with a mineral Penrite auto transmission fluid. Now 1500ks later the box is almost right & is getting better with every drive.

As Brian said.
, I run 15-40 for engine, MSA gearbox and the LT 95 T,box in the 6x6.
Keep it simple

Yep, I just use the same oil right through from engine to overdrive. Saves having to carry different oils as well.
Good to hear it's coming good again. When I bought my 101 the PO had been using gear oil in it, and first gear can be hard to come by when cold, but it hasn't got any worse since changing back to engine oil - that was over 20,000KM ago now.
