    Better hose clamp?

After a year without an issue, in the past few months my air intake to the manifold has broken through three high tensile hose clamps, different purchase points, different makers. Same general driving conditions. Only change was a 6 inch bit of flex added to the exhaust as the 30 uear old pipe had broken a weld twice. Yeah, i know, someone will suggest the engine is shaking too much and that base conditionmeeds to be addressed, but it's not from my observation, so what am I missing and what should I check or substitite? Any suggestions for one that may last better on the 4bd1?

I would have thought that the clamps would be the last bit to break. The hose should tear first. Even if you have broken engine/box mounts the clamps are only holding rubber on. Must be more to the story somewhere.

Any chance you could post up a picture and show us where the clamp is.

    Gday

I'll put my hand up and be the one to say it's a vibration issue. If it has been trouble free for a year, then suddenly breaks the exhaust and has snaps 3 intake clamps in a short space of time; my guess is it does have a vibration issue somewhere. Double check your engine mounts, they may be broken or partially broken. They may visually look ok, but for a proper test get a jack and lightly jack your engine up. Also check the mounts for the air filter, they're known for breaking (that is if you have the Aus spec filter housing mounted above the bell housing). I'd also suggest giving it a tune up, I was amazed how much difference it made for mine.

My guess will be if you fit another HD duty clamp, the hose will break next

When I first bought my County it rattled and vibrated like a sod, it is now, dare I say, smoother than the last two 300 Tdis I owned. When I pulled the original engine mounts out I found one was partially torn, I also gave it a top end tune and bumped up the idle speed a smidgeon. The other issue with the 4BD1 is that the fuel filter and primer sit directly above one engine mount. So each time you bleed your engine after a filter change it dribbles fuel onto the rubber of the engine mount. They do have a little gaiter for protection but they still go soft over time

If you are looking for a super heavy clamp you could try something like this

    solved(?)

Thank you for the input and ideas. Vibration was where i went too, but i couldn't discern much of a difference over the past. Appears i was wrong and the suzie was telling me something. It seems when the air con was active (clutch) there was more vibration in the mounts due to a bearing going bad and a slightly out of whack alignment on the belt. Couple this with a loose nut (other than the driver, me) or two and it seems there was added vibration. Fixed the aircon bearing and alignment, plus a tune as suggested, rechecking and tightening a few other places and all has been well since. Thank you for your help, all.
