Spot on John, it definitely pays to go genuine part with things like thermostats. Should be warm as toast inside the cabin this winter![]()
My County has been overcooling - it has been doing this for years, and replacing the thermostat does not seem to do much. So recently I bought a genuine Isuzu thermostat. I fitted it a couple of days ago, and tested the one I took out - it is opening at the right temperature, but is not closing completely. The new thermostat has a rubber coating on the moving part, suggesting that they regard a good seal as essential, none of the others I have fitted over the years have had this.
Went for a test drive today - temperature up to normal in five kilometres (usually takes thirty, if it ever gets there at all), and stayed there regardless of speed, hills etc. And the heater now works, albeit not particularly well.
Conclusion - get an Isuzu genuine part!

The 4BD1 had a thermostat that looked too expencive to buy genuine, its like if you fit a genuine visco hub as well you probably get the money back over time.
I replaced thermostat in a later model multi valve Isuzu truck in the last few weeks. It uses 2 thermostats with the same 82 deg temp but different dia valve and have each got special functions. one has 2 giggle balls that got stuck and caused a steam blockage.
I service 2 vehicles and they fail about 3 years old because the rubber seal get stuck. but quick to replace and not expencive.
