2.8 TD Isuzu engine
Chasing general info on the Isuzu 2800 Turbo Diesel (4BA1 ???) as fitted to the mid 90s Rodeos. I have been offered one of these (complete registered vehicle) and thought it maybe a nice heart transplant into one of my 2As. It may even be a nice little work ute if the transplant idea is not viable.
The vehicle is a 94, has just ticked over 200k, is a 3 seater single cab, 5 spd, 4X4 with air and steer.

2.8 Isuzu engine.
These are good motors Paul. Make sure it's a T motor and be careful around cooling. They do throw heads (crack warp etc). Not as strong as the 4B engines but very good for what they are. I think stronger than the little 300's. The pump is adjustable too along with sensible turbo arrangement. If you are fitting to a series car, make sure you find room for an intercooler.
Also- look at sump setup and clearances with front axlethough from memory I believe most are rear-bowl setups.. I think also that the starter is on the left.
Look at Price for a fully rebuilt 4JB1T?
Cheers

Gday Paul
I have heard of a few rare cases of these melting pistons, so maybe look at getting the pump and injectors looked at before you put it in
Aside from that, as the others have said they are a pretty bullet proof engine. I had one of the last model TF Rodeos with the 3 litre motor in it. I'd have to say was by far one of the best work utes I've had yet. Light on fuel with reasonable power

There's a ex-mil series 3 with what I believe is a Rodeo engine at the local scrap recyclers.
It still has the 6 cyl LR radiator & gearbox, maybe that gearbox is a bit fragile for the Isuzu?
The engine is partially dismantled (head off) so I guess it had a problem, but what that was is not readily apparent.
