Some photos can be deceptive, !t Looks like the Perentie is ready tow an 11 metre trailer (Photo 1)
Bought the trailer from Grays Auctions Sydney last Wednesday, transporter collected about
10.00am on Thursday for a 5.00pm delivery Friday in Brisbane.
Arrived 4.00pm which was great but thats when things started to get interesting,
the semi, the trailer was on was a low loader and would have been unable to get in our drive way,
fortunately a couple of blocks away resides a generous old timer and long term resident of the area
with a bit of spare land who was prepared to have it unloaded there, while I arrange for a smaller
tow truck to take it to our house.
The trailer has air brakes, which were locked on, and it weighs 5 ton, so the Perentie wasn't going to budge it.
No problem the old timer's son (50) disappears for a couple of minutes and comes back with a fare size ex -army tractor
and we gently drag the trailer off the low loader.
It gets better, made phone contact with a company which specialises in these sort of situations, based on the information
I supplied, they booked a suitable truck for 7.30am Saturday morning to move it to our place.
Like most readers on the forum, my first thought was the trailers security overnight, I couldn't just leave a near new trailer
sitting outside, my first thought was to back the Perentie right up against it and secure the trailer chains to the Landrover with
a light padlock which was all I had in the tool box.
Next morning the truck that was sent was another low loader, which was a repeat of which happened the day before,
I asked the driver to radio his base and suggest all that was really needed was a tilt tray with pintle hook and male and female
air brake couplings and it could tow the trailer to our home. Suitable Tilt tray was booked.
Without wanting to bore any readers further, before the next truck arrived it was ascertained that the air brake couplings on the trailer (ex army)
would not couple to civilian title trays, So 11.45am on Saturday had to cancel the tilt tray booked for the lunch time collection, and get a Mobile after-hours
brake hose & fittings service to come and change the couplings, this was done by 2.00pm, but the tilt tray was tied up with other business the rest of the afternoon.
Well the Trailer is well and truely secured to the Perentie tonight, (Photo 4) for an early morning collection on Sunday.
You really have to keep a sense of humour sometimes. Maybe the Landrover Perentie worked it's magic, because everyone seemed so co-operative and patient.
PS. The more observant would have noticed the pintle hook was to small for the Trailer ring, and the unseen leg and foot or (jockey wheel) carried the weight of the trailer not the Landrover.
