    power teering box adjusting bolt

    The free play adjusting screw on the top of the power steering box on my '84 County has been burred over and the slot is deformed resulting in the adjusing screw jamming in it's lock nut.
    I'd like to repace it in situ but I am unsure if I can just unscrew it until it comes out of the box and replace it.

    Could somebody confirm that this is possible?

    Looking at the manual, I'm afraid that won't work! The adjuster screw has a "head" on the inside, that contacts the pitman shaft (clearance here is what you are adjusting), so it has to be removed from the inside of the cover. And if the thread is damaged, that may not be that simple.

    Steering box screw

    I assume I could screw it out until the head stops it unscrewing and then repair the thread in situ.

    Yes, I thought of that after I posted the above - can't see any reason why that would not work, could be fiddly though unless you take the cover off and do it on the bench.
