Best path, replace with what you have, or go for a tom woods or the like. Why complicate it with a double cardan jobby
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone here has gone down the D2 double cardan front propshaft into County conversion ? Is it just a case of swapping over the input flange for the transfer case and bolting in the new shaft ? Do they feel smoother and hold up well ? The splines on mine are a tad stuffed I think, theres a fair amount of slack and I'm looking for the best path forward.
Cheers,
Mark

Ideally I would like to keep it all stock spec but from what I’ve read the stock front prob seems to be a bit average because of the diff angles. Would love to go Tom Woods, but $800... ouch
I was looking to try to mod a D2 front shaft to fit a Stage 1 v8. Same LT95 gearbox as a County? The stage 1 came std with a DC shaft but they are v expensive. From what I can gather the D2 shaft diff end will bolt straight up to the diff flange. The D2 shaft is about 25mm shorter than a stage 1 shaft and I was going to turn up an adaptor to bolt the D2 shaft gearbox end flange to the LT95 output flange.
You will find the disco tailshaft won't fit onto the front output flange on the transfer case if it is an original LT95 in the Stage 1. They have a longer front output housing and much bigger drive flange for the DC shaft than a standard box. But if you change the flange it should.

Hi Bearman.
Yes the LT95 transfer output flange and and D2 shaft flange are different. I have a lathe and was planning to turn up an adaptor disc/plate to allow bolting up of the two flange types. I have a D1 transfer box spare here but I assume there is no way the output flange from it would just bolt up onto the LT95 output shaft/splines?
The front prop shaft in my Stage 1 has no DC joint. I am chasing a vibration on overrun and this is a likely culprit... Anyway, I have to find a D2 shaft first so I can have a play with it. This project also sits in the usual list of other items requiring investigation and $$$...
Cheers,
Chris
On a puma with a lift yes, but never heard of this on any other beam axle landy with a mild lift. Mines lifted an actual 3" in the front, no vibration or diff angle issues.
Double cardan isn't needed.
As for tom woods, I got custom made front and rear shafts, made and delivered for under $1k, smooth as silk
