    120 Defender

    Hi All,

I know that a 120 (Defender?) has a 4BD1 in it - my question is: is it correct to assume that ordering parts for the 4BD1 out of a 120 - would be the same as a 4BD1 out of a Perentie / County?

I don't have an engine number yet - I'm just asking in advance.

Naturally I want to replace things like air filters, fuel filters, oil filter, etc.

Is it okay to assume that a 4BD1 is a 4BD1 - regardless of what it lives in? (120, County, Perentie) ?

    Cheers,
    GG.

There were 4 and 5 speeds, in the the 110s and I assume 120s, I believe all, Perenties were 4 speed.

The 6x6s are turboed, and I know of at least 1 factory turbo 4x4 110 County.

There are at least two types of oil filters, an element type, a spin on and maybe a twin setup.

Other than that I believe all the motors are the same If factory fitted.

If not factory fit then it could have the Isuzu truck flywheel housing and clutch, and the ancillaries could be anything.

The 4BD1 exists in a few forms, Land Rover, truck, marine, stationary, with different injection pumps, flywheels, flywheel housings.

There are certainly some parts different. The most important I can think of is the oil filters. Counties and the 120 have cartridge filters, where Perenties have spin on ones - except some (many?) Counties have been converted. Accessories such as alternator and starter are different between the County and the Perentie, and I would not be certain that the 120 is the same as either, but these are probably interchangeable with little difficulty. The same would apply to aircleaner elements.

Most engine parts will be the same or interchangeable interchangeable I expect.
