The fan on the turbo engine is different, it has a more swept appearance to the blades. Same size in diameter though.
I change the fans over when I did my conversion, but it was purly for selfish reasons though, and yes it still has that jynormass gap between the shroud.
I've contemplated thurmos, however I'm after ultra reliability so I ditched the electric idea.
I tow 5m + boats up here in the top end all the time, doing 100km/h in 36deg with 95% humidity, it dosn't get any tougher than that on your cooling system, and it runs at 82 deg all day.........it loves it

We fitted a viscous fan to our 4bd1 stage 1. Bought it off ebay as it was advertised as for fitting this engine. Had to have an adapter plate made to fit it. This meant we had to trim a tiny amount off the shroud. Freed up horsepower was negligable and it still ran at the same temp.

    cheers

100km/h means your fan is just along for the ride. Towing the same boat up a hill with full throttle at 25km/h would be a much better test of how good the fan is.
