Ok, I am not familiar with this engines regarding what is need to swap one for the other. The test bit of a diesel engine it is not a problem. I used to work with John Deere and Perkins for a few years in the late 70's.

G'day Chucaro :)
The 4BD1 Isuzu diesel that was/is fitted to the Landrover has some modifications to it to fit the Landrover bellhousing, the water pump is a totally different casting, and the starter is 12 volt there are other differences also exhaust comes to mind, BUT, if you were replacing a dead 4BD1 with another unit then it is a simple swap of parts or units. if the Isuzu is already fitted in a Landrover then it would have to be pretty dead not to get it going for $5K
cheers
welcome to the club (potentially)
still thinking of ways to intercool mine...
it's on the big list of things to do
It has been a while since I looked into the cost to get the 4bd1 turboed but from memory was approx $4000 from a place at Wollongong.
The 4bd1-T has different pistons and pump so the price you have is OK. With your experience you should have no problems of swapping parts of an existing Isuzu Land Rover.
I also have a County 4bd1 which I am working on at present and hope to replace my computer driven Td5.
Also consider turbo and gas injection. Have spoken to an owner at Penrith who had it gased and was very happy.
As I mentioned in the thread Defender or County I am in the process of evaluating which way to go with a budget of 15000 fully sorted out in either model. I am the type of person that try to do my research before jumping in.
It is going to be for long trips 2 months or more at the time so reliability is a must.
I am planning to sell my Disco which is in very good condition to finance the project.
Cheers
I got a quote from a large Sydney truck wrecker (NTS) for a no exchange (outright) complete 4BD1-T for $5950. Local motor with 6 months/50,000Km warranty. Haven't read the warranty conditions and he didn't mention the mileage in the email... Another option is the new Chinese import 'aftermarket' versions - $6600 complete (f/wheel, clutch kit, ancillaries etc) 12 month unlimited km warranty. I haven't read any experiences from people using the aftermarket motors but the seller seems to have a good background.
New Isuzu MXA-5R box to suit for $1250.
Thank you for the info, sine I posted the topic I have done some research. Fitting a diesel in a County with existing V8 petrol engine can cost up to $ 15000.
Considering the cost of this job would be more logic to purchasing a County diesel or a defender with a Tdi 300 and do the restoration required.
Cheers
