    Powers steering system pressure

I am putting the proper isuzu pump on my engine (the belt driven one it has been using is on the way out) and i wondered if these pumps needed to have the relief valve adjusted down so they didn't over pressure the steering box?
Looking in my books i get the impression that the landrover system runs at about 850psi and the isuzu pump relief valve is set to 1200psi. I have a feeling i might not have understood how the system works though.

Don't want to bust my steering box open.

    Cheers

    I had this problem.

I had a retrofitted isuzu 4BE1 in my 85 county with a 3-bolt box. I managed to split the housing on the box. I upgraded to a 4-bolt box and the PS place measured the pressure from the isuzu pump and it was way over spec. I recall they swapped out my pump for another 4BD1 (interchangeable) set at the right pressure. Sorry, don't know specs.

Unit failed whilst doing a 3-point turn on a narrow bush track.

Thanks isuzu 110. Well the pump i have is a 4BE1 pump. So it sounds like I need to get the relief valve changed. Does any one know what the relief valve pressure should be?
