It goes much better already, even without turning up the fuelling.
I can hear/feel the turbo starting to work just above idle. So far, the turbo seems well matched to the engine. I am expecting very good things once I have it all dialled in.
Even better things once the intercooler is fitted. Btw - the bits arrived today, here is a teaser:

The pipe in the picture is a 2.5" turbo inlet (factory silvia). One of the many such bits I couldn't make use of.
Btw Dougal - you were interested in the dipstick location. I will let you know if it copes with the heat.
Also forgot to say, total cost was about $1000, excluding the exhaust but including EGT and boost guages.
Exhaust is a 3" mandrel all the way through, with a flex pipe (beside the bellhousing - wouldn't fit in engine bay) and a single muffler. Offender90 wants to so some SPL readings on the weekend, so if anyone is interested, I can tell you very exactly what the noise level is.
