the wta still has to get rid of the heat to air somewhere. another wta like that used to cool your engine and a fan to cope with the slow speed stuff. Yeah greater specific heat of water c.f air will allow you to dump heat into the water for longer than just heating up the ally on the ata i/c.

have to agree with rovercare, the engine fan will pull air through a front mounted ata i/c.

WHat do you have to worry about the bonnet for? It is an issue now that you are feeding the plenum directly from the turbo but once you get your i/c in place you can route the pipes via another route. This is where the front mounted i/c comes in handy, you get from one side of the engine bay to the other via the front of the vehicle. Look at rijidij's setup. Don't worry we won't c.f with his set up. Not much:cool::twisted:

While your engine bay looks crud your work on the turbo flange adaptor is not that bad, looks good actually.

Is that adaptor mild steel or have you used something more exotic?

$2500 for a mould and $750 per bonnet is where it ended. I cant even break even for that, when my new bonnet was $1100.

My new plan is an air to air (300tdi as i have one laying around) under the drivers inner guard top, with a checkerplate scoop going all the way to the front edge. A mirror image on the passenger side will be for the heater box.

In off road situations, unless you are High revving constantly, you dont need an intercooler. I can only see a difference in the EGTs on hills and freeways now that i dont have one.

Offroad an intercooler would work best just as a heat-sink. Whether it's air/air or air/water probably won't matter much as they'll both reduce charge temps on a short burst just as well.

Unless you're using more than 10psi of your boost, an intercooler won't be doing much. I haven't been in many offroad situations that need sustained boost that high, but I don't drive in sand and don't like mud much either.

It looked a lot better until I degreased it prior to taking pics... The degreaser turned all the black painted bits grey... Will be tidying/painting some bits soon though, to make it look a bit nicer.

The wta IC will mount directly to the inlet manifold. So the pipe over the rocker cover will remain - albeit an improved version. That is one of the big selling points - the simplicity of the large diameter pipework. plumbing in an a/a intercooler on a 110 isn't a fun job. Plus the shorter run of pipe should help performance as well.

Dougal - slow sand work is what I mainly had in mind (unavoidable over here - the sand is VERY soft in many places and the weight of the 4BD1 doesn't help).

Andy - wow - shame about that - you had a fair few interested... Can't believe the LR part is so cheap!

yep a k and n on a ali tube, it s cone shape, biggest i could find,
if i did it agsin id try form on in on top of fender and have snorkle go streight in
to it, maybe a flat triangle or a rectangle ,so as to flow nice and not be a focus from drivers seat.!
