I thought the idea was to monitor the gas temp as it exits the combustion chambers so you can tell what's going on inside the engine. If that is true, it wouldn't matter whether the gas temp increases or decreases as it goes through the turbo - you would still want the pyro mounted as close as possible to the exhaust ports.

Yes that is correct.
Most (like me) mount the probe at the turbo entry because that's where all of the exhaust streams meet.
Having one probe for each cylinder port would be the ultimate setup, but not needed in most situations.

Putting a probe after the turbo is like putting a filter after the pump. Only good for the post-mortem.

g'day all,
I am based in Perth and am looking for a price on a 3.9 td isuzu lump cant tell you what i want to put it in i may offend the purists lol.
The only source i know of is where i used to work at Campbell barracks,
Heaps of land rovers with isuzu's under the bonnet there mmmmm, wonder if they would notice lol.
Any help would be appreciated i am looking for price and availability thanks guys

Upper limit for the temperature going into the turbine. Get the turbine to hot you will get grain growth, im not going to explain all that but it = dead turbo.

NB how this is over come in high performance Jets, is air from the compressor stage is feed into the hot end stage with out being used in the combustion possess, IE bypass

The manufacturers figures I've seen for turbine inlet temp were from 750-900C. We're more likely to cook the engine before the turbo.

TurboGlide told me to put the EGT probe 2 inches after the turbo on the first elbow of the exhaust.

If that is wrong where should I install the EGT?

What temp range would then be relevant?

Put it in the exhaust manifold.
Max temp you ever want to see there is 750C, put your own safety factor on that.
