Hmm, interesting, I didn't realise it was so light. My 2.25D flywheel is about 30kg IRC (petrol is 5-10kg lighter).

I've had this rattling around inside my head for quite some time. Now I've posted up on 4BTswaps about it.
Heavier flywheel? - Cummins 4BT & Diesel Conversions Forums
I think the 4BD1T needs a heavier flywheel. Not only to let you use the low end torque better, but also to save the gearboxes from an early death.
My 4BD1T flywheel is 16kg, I can easily fit a ring inside the back of the flywheel to bump the rotational inertia by 25%. With a little more work another 10% or so should be possible.
The 4BT's have flywheels ranging from 57lb (flat disc) to 62lb (big ring of weight around the outside so even bigger rotational inertia) with a similar OD.
Will a bigger flywheel be enough to save a lighter gearbox, even Justins Automatics?

i have been trying to find a flywheel for my 4bd1t and cant even find a standard one...... can anyone help on this ? i am in the uk and isuzu are unable to help, nor are sms diesel spares who i have bought bits from in the past. there must be some overlap as the gmc trucks in the usa used the 4bd engines. i even bought a 4bd2t engine thinking i could rob parts off that but of course they are different :O(

Just contact Isuzu in Australia if you have to, i bought a new one a few months back.
It may help to state which flywheel you are after? The Landrover flywheel or one of the (2-3 different) truck flywheels...
If the truck flywheels, Soltoggio Bros wrecking in Perth has a couple of Parts 4BD1s, which had flywheels fitted last I checked. The same should go for a lot of other wreckers in AU.
