How does that work? My dipstick is through the block and into the sump. Oil is added through the rocker cover and heads down the pushrod ports over the cam and into the sump. It could drip onto the dipstick on the way down, but I've never had that happen.
I have to wait about 15 minutes after adding oil for the oil to all trickle down and raise the sump level.
Trying to check the oil at say a fuelling stop is futile. Unless you've got a few hundred litres of fuel to pump.
