Oil capacity

How does that work? My dipstick is through the block and into the sump. Oil is added through the rocker cover and heads down the pushrod ports over the cam and into the sump. It could drip onto the dipstick on the way down, but I've never had that happen.
I have to wait about 15 minutes after adding oil for the oil to all trickle down and raise the sump level.
Trying to check the oil at say a fuelling stop is futile. Unless you've got a few hundred litres of fuel to pump.

I guess I'm concerned because most literature I have come across indicates a sump capacity of 8ish litres. The rangie has a truck engine, and I'm assuming truck sump, so is it possible that the dipstick was moved/altered during the install and now reads incorrectly. Pretty sure I checked level when engine oil had settled.
Any others out there that know their sump capacity?

As I understand the 4BD1 had the sump altered for use in the Land Rover, I believe we have what is called the wing sump, I don't know how it differs to the sump used in the NPR trucks.

There are different sumps. Land Rover sump has an extension out to the left - but I recall seeing a post where the later Perenties had the same sump (no extension) as Isuzu truck.

My first 86 County took 7 L while my current County with Stage 1 donk is overfull by a least a litre if I put 8 in (which I've done twice now:o). Stick with 6 and make sure you check with the car parked level. My low oil pressure light on both LR's remains on for what seems like 3 or 4 secs. I haven't been too concerned

NFI how it works, but it happened. 110 was parked for 1hr or so, with the front LHS a bit lower than the rest of the car (in a gutter). I topped it up bit by bit, every time I checked the dipstick (30secs-1min after adding a bit more), the mark went up above the full mark. When I wiped it and stuck it back in, it only got to the bottom of the dipstick. Repeated this several times with same result.

I recently changed the oil and filter, added 9 litres of oil as I was unsure how much the filter held, went for a drive rechecked half hour later and had to remove a bit due to overfill, I estimate that it is holding about about 8.5 to 8.7 litres, the level hasn't moved since.

I have not actually measured it, but I can't do three changes from 20l. The owner's manual gives the same as isuzurover 8l + 0.5l, and this must be pretty close to what I use.

Note that the relatively flat sump plus the drain being on the side and the dipstick at the front, side of the sump make it very sensitive to being on a slope when draining and refilling - it has to be on the level. If down at the back the dipstick will under read but if down to the left it will over read, and what is more, less oil will drain out - I was quite surprised when I had the sump off to replace the gasket recently how much oil had not drained.
