first serious trip for the incasaurus..
a week long holiday outing hauling the camper fully loaded to Kenilworth and then some playing on the tracks in that area.
trip there the truck pretty much loaded to the hilt plus pulling 1.5tonne of camper and it coped fairly well once i got used to the torque zone and the 4bd1's idiosyncrasies.
overall i was hoping it would be better but the tall transfer case kills the advantages i would have expected and it was very similar to the 300tdi, the big difference being the torque was available earlier but doesnt hang round as long.
off road, big difference but again the tall transfer case killed it in some pradicaments ....
namely the vertical ones....
have to say i had a very tired anal sphincter after attempting to decend one track.
the climb up was pretty heavy going in 2nd low and the ground was dry and a bit marbled so i had the tires down to 15 psi.
reached a little plateau where we decided the next section was just too steep to contemplate so we did a 30 point turn and i pointed the old girl in the right direction for the trip down.
went 20 feet and it was obvious 1st low was too dam fast so it was going to be a hairy ride down balancing enough brake to hold it back without having the tyres lose grip..
elected to get the better half out of the truck and down the hill on shankes's pony so i didnt have her screaming in my ear and to make sure someone survived the trip down
getting her down on the marbley dirt was no mean feat either i have t say...
anyway, to cut a long story short we made it back to camp in one piece...
it begs the question, can you get the maxidrive 30% reduction gears into this transfercase ... if they are available anywhere...
other trips were uneventful but could not get all the way along black hut rd as there were a couple of trees across it and i didnt have a chainsaw with me...
trip back home was uneventful as well and i learned a bit about how to manage the torque and revs on long down hill runs..
12 ltrs per 100 klms was the trip average so i was delighted with the fuel consumption considering the terrain and the loads...

Hi Dave, I find my 1st low slow enough to make me want to accelerate down some hills, and I'm running 33" tyres
Must've been incredibly steep
Good fuel bill loaded all up though
AFAIK there are no further reduction gears available for the LT95 other than factory.
Just came back from 2 days NW coast touring etc, best fuel econmy to date and far better driveability with the .996:1 gears I finally fitted. Not towing anything this time though.

definitely was steep...
i was fgoing to go back on it the next day on my own but it rained overnight and i wasnt going to touch it wet for all the tea in china...
if i could find an lt95a in good nick i would do the swap i think

When put the 30% reduction gears in my 84 rangie some years ago, they were only available for LT230's with taper roller bearings in the intermediate gears - I had to swap to a latter year model t/case.
