(As a side note, I have been chasing an overheating water temp for a while and have turned down the fuel recently and appears to have gone a way to correcting this.)

Water temp now runs between 89 - 96 deg c depending on load, have seen as high as 120 when fuel was up.

Highest Oil Temp I have ever seen was 50 deg c, normally sits below 30

Oil pressure from cold start is at 60psi within 5-6 secs and will hold that until warm. It stays there everywhere except at idle where it drops to 40psi but never less than that.
I have used both Rimula X and Castrol RX super and have found them to be both excellent oils. I am running on my 2nd motor now (only got 3000k on it so far). My specs are 80-85*c water temp, oil pressur 65psi hot running and 40psi idle hot. Cold they are 85/60. Oil temp is 100 - 115*c depending on load/fuel and pyro 300-350*c on the flat and up to 650*c on long hills

Is anyone running Penrite HPR Diesel 15? It is a semi-syn 15w50.

I've been happily running Castrol RX Super but the "Australian Family Owned" thing has been looking closer to home for my next change. Castrol RX Super works out to $6 a litre, and HPR Diesel 15 is $7.3 a litre - so I'm not too fussed with the extra cost.

On the Penrite website they recommend HPR DIESEL SAE 20W-60, but that may not be right for the cold Canberra Winters.

    From Pentrite's website:

    Description:
HPR DIESEL 15 is a premium high performance semi synthetic SAE 15W-50, non-friction modified engine oil. It contains a DOUBLE LAYER of engine wear protection with FULL ZINC and Penrites advanced EXTRA TEN technology. It contains a combination of high technology additives, including increased dispersant levels and low shear viscosity modifiers. It Protects against corrosion, oil oxidation and sludge under all operating conditions.

    Application:
HPR DIESEL 15 is designed for use in modern 4, 6 & 8+ cylinder multi cam, multi valve (Including VVT), naturally aspirated, supercharged, turbocharged common rail & direct injection diesel engines.

HPR DIESEL 15 is recommended for use in petrol, light duty diesel engines, LPG/Dual fuel & four stroke motorcycles including those with wet clutches. It is also suitable for use in petrol and LPG engines as a mixed fleet oil. It is NOT suitable for use in diesels fitted with a DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter).

HPR DIESEL 15 exceeds the requirements of API CI-4 PLUS/SL and ACEA A3/B4/E7 as well as many manufacturers requirements. It can be used where SAE 15W-40 & SAE 20W-40 grade oils were originally recommended by the manufacturer.

HPR DIESEL 15 features the Penrite EXTRA TEN in the oils SAE rating. The EXTRA TEN helps protect your engine by using an oil that has a higher viscosity at operating temperature than what is normally specified, thus providing better protection and reducing engine wear in all driving conditions.

    Product Benefits
EXTRA TEN provides an EXTRA LAYER of engine protection
FULL ZINC additive package for superior engine wear protection
GREATER engine protection than 15W-40 grade oils
    Minimises sludge formation
Less oil consumption compared to 15W-40 oils
Reduces wear by controlling soot deposits
    Longer engine life
    Reduced high temperature engine deposits
    Longer oil life
Reduces wear due to advanced base oils
Suitable for both Diesel and LPG engines
Can be used in light and heavy duty diesel engines
    Safe for wet clutch motorcycles
    Key Specifications:
    API CI-4 PLUS/SL
    ACEA A3/B4/E7

Hey champs I am running HPR15 also ,have being for the last 2 oil changes . Very good and as a mechanic i reckon it sound better .Just one thought to consider and this may or may not effect an old school diesel - but it takes energy to pump oil and the thicker it is the more energy consumed . Therefor it will use more fuel. Thats why a v8 diesel land cruiser will use more fuel and oil if the wrong viscosity is used . Nationally Toyota recommends 5/30 full synthetics . It also makes a difference in small petrol cars where they get really good fuel figures . just some useless info lol

Hi. I have been running it for 40,000 ks, in a 6x6. All seems well.

Flagg, that's a good point on the Australian owned thing. I never really thought about it before, but every fluid in my Disco is Penrite including engine oil of HPR Diesel 15. I have no complaints and the price is good too. Maybe I'll just use that for the 110 too.

I have also heard second hand that Fred Smith (Landy nut who runs a workshop in Melbourne) is a big advocate of Penrite and has used them in Landy's for a very long time including 4bd1's.
