    Unhappy 4BD1 Thermostat

My 4BD1 runs to cold and can get hot on a long hard hill on a 40+ day.
    I'm thinking thermostat is shot.
I have been quoted $98 for a new thermostat Is that right?
I'm not sure what temp it should be or what else fits the 4BD1.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks Tony

A properly functioning thermostat is essential in a $BD1. You will not get good performance or fuel economy when they run cold. $98 is too much. I got one from Brisbane Isuzu for $52. FWD quoted $74.

Try your local Isuzu dealer - I get mine from Fred Smith in Melbourne, so I can't help locally. Except, don't try Repco - the one they have listed for the 4BD1 is the wrong one. Make sure you get a rubber gasket to go with the new thermostat.

In almost 500,000km two thermostats is just about the total of repairs to my engine (also sump gasket & a few other O-rings etc, plus alternator and starter repairs). As Brian says, thermostat is essential, although it is as well for most engines.

Only use a genuine Isuzu thermostat - 78 degrees opening temp or 82 degress opening temp - price should be between $55 and $75 depending on where you are (including Grand Scale Theft)

Thanks all. Have one organised for $65 inc freight to here and Get Stuffed Tax.
Will go to truck suppliers in future for 4BD1
