G'day Nick, welcome to the forum,
I haven't worked on the alternators myself, but I think replacing a bearing would be a pretty straight forward job for any auto electrician. If the rest of it is still good, it might not cost too much to get done.
Someone else might be able to comment wether it's a job straight forward enough to tackle yourself.

    Cheers, Murray

Hi Nick and welcome. As Murray says, an auto elec may be a better prospect as when it comes time to replace a bearin, generally brushes and other iems need a look at too. That said, if you are careful and can solder well, then maybe DIY is a good way to learn about alternators. If a problem appears the worst it can do is stop charging the battery.

The alternator itself would present no difficulties for someone reasonably careful, but this alternator includes a vacuum pump, which may present more problems, including for the run of the mill auto electrician.

New alternator bearings are easy to fit, but if the noise is from the vacuum pump, it may not be as simple.
