turbos are about the easiest thing to rebuild on a modern diesel engine.
a good DTI and mag base is a nice to have but not essential IVe done them before today with nothing more exotic tool wise than a vernier and a steel bar.
I'm looking for a turbo to fit to my 120.
Quite often we see turbos for sale stating that they are generally in good condition, but in need of a rebuild because of worn bushes etc.
Firstly, where's a good place to buy a rebuild kit for say, a Garrett T25.
Secondly, is a rebuild something you can do yourself with a kit and reasonable mechanical ability, or is there more to it than just bunging the new parts in.

I only have very average experience with rebuilding Turbos here.As most of our plant here are Turboed I have done seals, bushes and replaced cracked housings in them. Only drama I have had is If it need rebalancing after replaceing a compressor wheel etc. You may need an anvil to do this.

I put an ebay rebuild kit into my T25 about 18 months ago, maybe 15,000km now.
Running it at up to 20psi and still has no dramas. It's not a difficult job, just a fiddly one.
I also swapped compressors, didn't rebalance the assembly. All the parts are balanced individually, assembly balance is taking care of the tiny residual imbalance which is mainly a noise issue.
If you're reusing the same nut and compressor, then mark the nut/wheel orientation with a scriber and put them back on the same way.
