    Santana LT 85 Gearboxes

Hi all wondering how common are the Santana LT 85 gearboxes as found behind Countys and were they also avilable behind the isuzu versions too. Does the Bell housing on these vary compared to the LT95 gearbox bellhousings and are they as uncommon as the LT95 bellhousings are? My isuzu project is moving along gradually and any leads or advise on this would be appreciated.
    Kindest regards

I have a LT85 in my 120 and live in fear of the 4BD1T eating the gear box even though mine has multi roller bearings in it. I still don't know how long it will last.

I would try to get the LT95 if you can. They can be beefed up to handle the 4BD1.
I will most likely end up with one in mine when the LT85 self destructs

The bell housing used with the LT85 is different on the Isuzu application, and doesn't interchange with the one on the little V8.

I like the LT85 behind the 4BD1 as the overdrive really makes it a great touring vehicle, 2200 rpm @ 110 kph. I don't use overdrive around town or under 80 kph outside.

    what he said !

is a nice combo behind the 4bd1

but i wouldnt say no to an lt95a if one came my way at the right price but i wouldnt bother with just an lt95 as mine has the 230t transfercase with the thrust bearing arrangement in it..

I also like the idea of a overdrive behind the isuzu I already have a LT95 that came ftrom a Stage 1 isuzu. I have promised it to JustineC on return for his holiday as he has verbally committed to purchase it from me. I am keeping the isuzu motor for my 130 but wanted the 5 speed option, have been keen on the late model R380 box conversion from a previous thread this seems a good alternative. To do it I need a LT85 bell housing which means finding either a Santana box which would then bolt straight in or at least its bell housing so I can do the adaptionto a R380. Either way I would end up needing a LT 85.

G'day All, I have a Santana box behind mu Isuzu, it was modified by Maxi drive about 14 years ago with tapered roller bearings on all shafts, I run the oil that Mal S recommended, so far so good, my only complaint with the box is that when it's cold it's notchy in 1st n 2nd otherwise OK cheers Dennis

so If I want a LT85, I will have to get a isuzu LT85 bell housing, is this correct?
