I just unbolt one end of my steering damper.
It takes less time than cleaning up the mess if I don't.

A bracket came with the maxi-drive tie rod, which was the same size as the maxi-drive drag link. Then had to make a bracket for the chassis end.
My new set-up uses a bilstein steering damper for a disco II (eye - eye) mounted between the drag link and panhard. The brackets clamp to each with a pair of u-bolts.
Does the bilstein have enough gas pressure to influence the steering?
My koni's take approx 50kg to start them moving from full extension, it takes less than that to move the steering box arm with the engine off, but considerably more to turn the tyres on any given surface.
I'm just wondering if it would make a flat road feel like a lightly cambered road (slight pressure on the wheel to keep it going straight).
I do like the idea of a damper mounted between the two rods.
