    Advice Needed

    Hi All,

After much looking around and deliberation, I finally purchased a 5 door wagon. It was a relativity low K example with a 4 speed box that I bought (for a lot of money) almost sight unseen.
All I had time for was a quick test drive and to check the bottom of the doors for rust (there was none), the owner did however inform me that the rear cross member has been replaced (that should of made me have a closer look).

Anyway I made the owner an offer and he accepted it (As is), but when I picked it up and took it in to the local LandRover place I got some bad news:
Without work to the sills and firewall they would not give me a road worthy.

    What do I do?

I already have a project car (http://www.aulro.com/afvb/projects-t...eries-3-a.html) and a broken RRC (88 with a VM Diesel), so if I was to collect another broken LandRover my life would not be worth living.

So I have the following options:

Sell the car without rego (and at a loss) to some one with the time and space for a project.

    or

Put the Isuzu and 4 speed in the RRC and **** of that crappy VM donk.

    or

Risk life and limb and fix the county

    What do I do?
(and do you want to buy a 85 Isuzu county? some work required, or any of my other cars so I have space for a county)

Fix the county, you know you want to and it will put a big grin on your face when you drive it

Call me biased, but that's the answer right there.

What he said. time for a county makeover.
The 4bd1 will toast the drivetrain in the RRC.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Not if he's taking the Lt95 with it.

Just read your Series 3/Mazda conversion thread. If you haven't gone too much further since your last post I would put Isuzu/LT95 in the Rangie to get that going and then use the County chassis with coils & power steer with the best bits from the Series/County for your new project . Whatever you have left you could sell to try get some money back.

Sills are dead easy to replace, you only need to find a donor series vehicle (I think) - the firewall could be tricky though.
You bought it as a County & I reckon it should stay as one.
I would make a serious offer but I'm in Vic & knee deep in this - similar job.

That would be my personal preference, they are getting a bit rare and I really don't want to wreck this one.
Especially as the repairs required are no where near as extensive as the ones you are currently performing!

But I really don't want another project and as such can't really do the work my self, I would much rather pass it onto another landy nut that wanted a small project.

removing and refitting to the Range Rover would make a good vehicle. It must be a late 80s rangy so would be a good vehicle. If the firewall in the County needs to be replaced it would be less work to change the motor/box to the rangy IMO. Removing/refitting the sill and b pillar is not technically difficult but will take a few hours i.e remove front and back floor, front seats/base, front seatbelts. If you do fit another pillar and sill, get it galvanised if doing a bit of beach work and probably remove the door rubber protector on the sills as they just trap sand/salt.
    L322 tdv8 poverty pack - wow

Nah no need to replace the firewall, the rust appears to be contained in the passenger foot well. and it was only after a fair bit of cleaning that I was able to see it from the inside.

I will try to post a couple of pics in the morrow.
