If you have been able to salvage all the pieces, try to araldite them all on to a thin piece of steel backing, like a jigsaw. You need to drill holes where they were originally, as this is usually where they break off.
Well my instrument surround has finally died - it just broke into 4 pieces after going over a speed bumb yesterdayAfter a luckless search for a decent one, i think i am left with either trying to fix it or trying to find one ........
So i am just wondering, Can a defender one be "made" to fit ? or, has anyone tried to fibreglass one and then screw it to the dash and steering column cover ?
I am heading out across the simpson in 2 weeks and am stuck for ideas on something that wont fall apart from the corrugations.
any ideas would be appreciated thnx![]()

Thnx Deejay, i was thinking something similar but the plastic is really very brittle, thats kind of why i lent towards the fibreglass.
I do have some 1mm gal tin so that should work, should i just do the edges or try and strengthen the corners as well ?
Yeah I've been wondering about this too... mine is held together with gaffer tape![]()

Are you talking about the instrument panel or the cradle behind?
I made a new cradle from Al, but haven't had to replace the instrument panel yet. However I thought they were only around the $30 mark???
Just the surround that holds the gauges .... i pulled it out today and it was so brittle it cracked even more. I am going to fiberglass it and make some new ally mounts and screw it in so it wont move, and for extra added good fun the wiring looks like a nest of snakes .............. sigh !!
I just got a new one, but that was a few years ago (quite cheap, but I don't remember the cost). I don't know if the Defender one is the same, but I suspect it is (or at least interchangeable).

The non AC county version is the same as the defender version, as the heater controls stick out either side of the instrument panel. You can fit a defender version to an AC county but it will look slightly different.
For the price they are pretty good value, and last 15 years or so.
i have my pod off and dash out, i am past the point of no return i think.
Playing with the idea of making up a new pod out of carbon fiber, but making it a bit wider ( to the left ) so i can fit a couple of more gages in and maybe even an air vent.
i did got to TRS but Phill wanted 300+ bucks for a replacement defender one.
