Recently after rebuilding one in a 130 with a 4bd1T and IC etc, I thought of getting around working hard in 5th towing by fitting 33's and using 4th. Wrong. It still broke 5th gear (again) 18months and 22,000km later

Now its a LT95 transplant with Taper roller transfer and all the fruit

Had 250k on it when I bought motor, put the LT95 in and did another 500,000without any problems (changed front and rear crankshaft seals and had injector nozzles cleaned twice in this time) Turboed it at 320,000, other than that absolutely no problems. Not even a fan belt! Compression was starting to get a bit low (still good oil pressure) so I changed it out and have 8,000 on my new motor. Also LT95 is still going strong. Cant get a much better reference than that.!

Think I should find a good perentie LT95 and have ready for when mine eventually gives up again I'm going to miss having a 5th gear

Looks like a lot of stuffing around to use a NPR truck gearbox from what I can see.

As we all know the 4BD1 is a very robust and long lasting engine but can be so hard on the drive line at times

    That is suprrising...

The oldest non rebuilt LT85 I have seen had 360000k on the clock, behind an NA 4BD1. 3rd was getting worryingly sloppy, but apart from that all was OK.

Some were out of alignment more than others Ben, My uncles one in his NA 1988 110 had 2 rebuilds etc before 100K, and the 3rd time it was redrilled/ dowelled to the bellhousing to correct the .050" misalignment. After that it did a further 250K without issue. IIRC it was Dave Purcell in Perth who found the problem and had it corrected. Long time ago now
