    intercooler in a rangie

Just wondering if anyone who has a 4bd1t intercooled in a rangie has any pics of there cooler and mainly the piping? In particular how they piped it into the engine bay from the cooler! Under the radiater, out the sidesinto the wheel well then back in????
I'd like to go under the radiater, and was thinkng of getting one something like this Intercooler Turbo Front Mount or V-Mount RX-7 Backward - eBay Turbo Parts, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 22-Aug-09 14:38:39 AEST) or getting one made similar.
The above mentioned one would sit perfectly between the rails and the piping would go directly under the radiater (body lift) , it is a little thick though, and i would have to ditch or look for thinner condensor fans, gotta have the a/c.

    Any thoughts?

this would be better Turbo INTERCOOLER 24x11x3 Mazda RX7 V-Mount FMIC - eBay Intercoolers, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 20-Aug-09 17:35:21 AEST) As i can fitt it up higher and put silicon bends on to come through under the radiater.
    Would this be big enough?

These guys seem to be all the rage this week, thanks Lokka.

And claim to work better at low speed when there's not a lot of airflow over the intercooler.

    Damien,

No pics I'm afraid but I have mounted mine full width and as I have a 3" BL the pipes fit neatly between the body mount and chassis pedastal curl round and up through the inner guard, through the bottom of the battery box on the pass side, and come through under the battery on the drivers side. My second battery is in the back.

I have a 'Hybrid' type mass produced cheapie, full width and deep enough to fill down to mid way through the bullbar channel. I have cut out my fairlead hole to get some more air

It is about 75mm thick, and it has a huge temp drop across it. I am pushing 15psi through it.

Thanks JC, i only have a 2" BL so makes it a little harder, but at first i was looking at running my pipes similar to what you've done and would like the biggest i/c i could fit, (cheapy is fine for now), i plan on running 20psi (min) with a Garret VNT.
Perhaps i should go back in the shed and look a bit harder

I have no body lift. Which is one of the reasons I still have no intercooler.

Hoping to fit my air-water one sometime in the next year, I've owned it for over 2 years now.

I was given a 300TDI intercooler, I was wondering how to fit it in our Rangie, at the moment it won't fit in front of the radiator, the High mount winch and the cross braces are in the way.

Thought one: Move the radiator and cowling back towards the motor on some new brackets.

Thought two: Put the intercooler behind the radiator inside the cowling (has the heat of the radiator to deal with then)

Thought three: Buy a water to air intercooler (but I already have an air to air intercooler)

Question One: If I relocate the radiator towards the rear getting it closer to the motor, is it better to run the intercooler pipes over, under or to the side of the radiator?

Question Two: Is the intercooler behind the radiator a possibility of liability?

    Glenn
