If you use the search function you wil find loads of information.

Bottom line is the ZF won't cope with an Isuzu engine.

The Isuzu 4JB1T is a good replacement for a 300Tdi that would be fine with a ZF auto.

Conversion kits are available in UK, where it is popular replacement for the V8. 2.8 litre, direct injection diesel, readily available in Australia where it was fitted to rodeos and jackeroos. Good performance with an intercooler and tuning, less hassles compared to 300Tdi. Mechanical (no electronics) like 300Tdi.

The later 3.0 and 3.1 indirect injection engines are not as good. The newer 4JJ1T is a ripper, though it need electronics for the common rail injection. The 4JJ1T is used in the D-Max.

I have the old 4BD1T in my rangie, but they are a big engine and more work would be required to fit one. They are not as smooth or quiet as the 4JB1T or 4JJ1T. The max power of the 4JB1T is comparable to the 4BD1T, but at higher revs - the 4BD1T's advantage is at low revs. 4BD1T's are hard on light duty gearboxes.

Huh who does this anymore, not having a dig, but generally no one searches, easier just to ask the same old question again and again

(jimbo this is NOT directed at you)

I used to drive a truck with the 4BDT and they were/are a great engine. My new truck has the 4HK1 motor and its a cracker and would be terrific in a RR or disco IF it fits. 4 cyl, 5.2 litre ohc intercooled turbo common rail diesel. This motors cruises in my truck at 130kph and returns an average of 15l per 100. And it does that while dragging around 4.5 ton of batteries with a gross weight of 8700kg. Im being totally biased but I love my Isuzu diesel.

My new truck is a 2008 NQR450 Isuzu. The 4BDT1 came out of a 94 ish NPR400. Both cabs are very similar in dimensions. I rekon anyone interested in a new model engine transplant should pop down to Isuzu dealer and have a sqizz at the available models. The only downside to this new motor is that its computer controlled and has a live wire throttle and may be a bit more fiddly to install, but does it goooooooooooo hard compared to the older motors.

They do look excellent, but they're bigger than the old 4B's which just manage to squeeze into a landrover engine bay.
One guy on 4btswaps.com is putting one into a landcruiser, he's adapting the aisin auto to the landcruiser transfer which bypasses all gearbox fitment issues.
