    Isuzu B Engine Family

I posted this in response to a question in the members section, but thought it may be worth posting here too FYI, and for people to add to.

    4BE1 (3.6L) BorexStroke 105x105 mm
    (4BF1)? 6BF1 BorexStroke 105x??? mm
    4BG1 (4.3) 6BG1(T) (6.5L) BorexStroke 105x125 mm

Apart from the 4BA1, it seems they all initially had a 102 mm bore - until the newer E - G engines were developed with a 105 mm bore.
This seems to be a complete listing of B series engines. I can find parts listings for a 6BF1 (hadn't heard of it before) but no 4BF1. Logic would dictate it should have a 115mm stroke??? Not sure if all of the above made it to Australia.

    EDIT:
Found some more info that the 6BF1 is 6.13L - which would make it 105x118 - however it must be a very uncommon engine???

Might as well add in the 4H family as well... However info is a bit harder to get on these - can anyone add anything?

These are all gear driven OHC. Everything is driven off the flywheel, I suspect that was the easiest/lightest way to get the gears up to the top of the motor.

Bore and stroke seem all over the place for these engines, only common thing is that they are OHC...

    4HE1 (4.75L) / 6HE1 (7.13L) BorexStroke 110x125 mm
    4HF1(4.33L) BorexStroke 112x110 mm
    4HG1 (4.57L) BorexStroke ????
    / 6HH1 (8.23L) BorexStroke 115x132 mm
4HK1 (5.2L) / 6HK1 (7.8L) *** DOHC 4-valve common rail EFI. All other engines mechanical injection (in AUS). BorexStroke ????
NB, all of the above turbocharged and aftercooled

    Anyone else have anything further???

Note to self - must build a 6HE1 powered forward control one day...

4Hx timing gears are driven from the crankshaft. They are located between the rear of the block and the flywheel.

One reason I remember Isuzu giving, is for noise - I guess in a cab-over truck the rear location of the timing gears may help with noise in the cab.

Does anyone know the difference between the 4BC1 and the 4BC2?
My brother has a truck with the 4BC2, but I've yet to find a 4BC1.

    The pistons are quite different:
    Isuzu 4BC1
    Isuzu 4BC2

    4BC1 has a similar design to the 4BA1 - all other engines (B, C2, D) have a similar design.

The C1 piston appears to be for an indirect injection motor.

My friend at Welcome to Rotec :: Rotec Diesel is currently working on the 4BA1 engine, as this will be the first to receive their redd system.

He was telling me how surprised they were at the top quality parts used in this range of engines, 4BA1, 4BD1 and the 4BE1. Good news for all of us I guess.
