Also on the E320 CDI I believe - which you guys have over there (but we don't here)?
Both the toyota and merc versions are electronically actuated aren't they?
With the help of some toyota nutters I found the ideal turbo for a mildly tuned 4BD1T.
The later toyota 1HD-FTE is also known as the 292F. This comes factory with a GT2359V turbo.
Years seem to be 2001+ for european 100 series toyotas and later for JDM toyotas.
The 1HD-FTE in the 79 series appears to keep the CT26 which is no-use to us.
I'm now looking for a 292F spec turbo.![]()

There seem to be a few options for this family...
GT2260V turbochargers, GT2260V turbo, GT2260V turbocharger, GT2260V diesel injection
GT2256V turbochargers, GT2256V turbo, GT2256V turbocharger, GT2256V diesel injection
GT2559V turbochargers, GT2559V turbo, GT2559V turbocharger, GT2559V diesel injection
GT2556V turbochargers, GT2556V turbo, GT2556V turbocharger, GT2556V diesel injection
Maybe some are better fitted than others....
(note the 22 / 25 family.. both have been discussed although I'm not sure what the difference is..)
Hercules: 1986 110 Isuzu 3.9 (4BD1-T)
Brutus: 1969 109 ExMil 2a FFT (loved and lost)
The 22/25 is the size of the exhaust turbine. Bigger number means bigger turbine wheel OD.
The 56/59 etc number is the size of the compressor wheel OD in mm's.
Basically the small variable vane garretts stop around the GT2560V size, the biggest one you can find will be good as long as the orientation works. Some variable vane turbos can't be realigned to suit due to the actuator lever position.
