The main weakness of the LT85 seems to be the bearings getting hammered by the isuzu. I have heard of heavier duty bearings being put in. But either way they hadn't failed until upwards of 250 000km in the first place.

Agree 100%!!! I am very sorry to hear that Bill's place was hit by the bushfires. Surely we can all chip in a few $$$ to buy Bill an old Lathe??? As long as he posts his creations on here...
I must admit I forgot about the roverdrive - even though I know the guy who makes them...
I was referring to the original cohort of overdrives - fairey, toro and I believe there was one other. All much of a muchness, however the Toro was quieter, had bigger bearings, more oil capacity and stronger engagement teeth than the fairey.
