I have a trim that goes around the bottom of the cover.

Do you have something that also fits inside the cover?
the actual rocker cover is on the inside and the acoustic housing sits on the out side

The 4BD1T has a 2 piece heat shield to protect the rubber seal at the base of the acoustic cover.

Might be something to think about as I notice none fitted in the pics above.

    Thanks Guys

Lamb. I understand that tha actual rocker cover is underneath and that the sheetmetal acoustic cover just sits over. My query was regarding if there is anything else , like an insulated liner that sits directly inside the rocker cover.

Bush. Good spot. I'm glad I didn't fit my acoustic cover just yet. Will have to see if there is something resembing that in the spares box.

There is no insulation layer in the rocker cover or acoustic cover. There is a valve for the engine breather under the hump.

And isolation between the two is via rubber/plastic pads on the bolts at either end with a rubber seal (similar to a door seal) around the lower edge.

Has anyone tried running without the acoustic cover to check noise levels?

well an update, I had a new exhaust fitted to day and the turbo is now boosting to 11psi so again of 1 psi over the temperary down pipe i had. well at 100k empty car the egt was sitting at 440-450, how dose this compare to you guys, my car has three roof racks with a shovel and high lift jack up there and I have 33 tyres. I am still having a hard time getting used to the lower revs compared to the v8 but I do prefer the turbo diesel though, very happy with the conversion.

Those temps are a little high for my liking. I would be fiddling with a little increase in fuel and see if that brings it down. You will know when the fuel is too high as it will smoke. On a hot day with a full load, a trailer, full roof rack, a few passengers, head wind and a long pull up a hill those temps are going to rise considerably. I would be trying to get them down at least 100 lower than they are. A snorkel will also help with bringing cooler air into the turbo and i would hook up the turbo cooling water. Turbine temps of 450 - 600 are going to transfer some heat throught the barrel to the compressor side increasing the charge temps, however if the cooling water temp in the barrel area is 80 odd degrees (engine temp) it is going to dissipate some of the heat there instead of going through to the compressor side. This will also prolong your oil life.

    Hey Lamby,

Those figures, as Brian says are a little high for 100Km/hr. Are you going to intercool it?

I have the same turbo, and 15psi with intercooling,(I have disconnected my wastegate) at 100km/h i am at 300 to 350. A hill will see me hit 440 odd, but only for a short time.

    I am running 33's and a LT95 with .996 gears.

More boost and an intercooler will solve 90% of this issue.

10 to 12 Psi and those EGT's are pretty indicative of a non intercooled engine, and as Brian says I would be backing the fuel off a little bit.
