    Towing with NA Isuzu County

A friend of mine has a normally asperated isuzu county. We are planning a trip up north together, but he is worried he will slow the convoy down. He will be towing a jayco dove style camper, around 1ton. Anyone have any experiences with the kinds of highway speeds sustainable with this setup? Would he be able to average 90 or 95km/hr ?

    Thanks in adv,
    Taz.

Should be able to maintain 100 on the level, but will slow on significant hills. I regularly tow up to 2tonnes with mine, and this is my experience. Of course, if his tow vehicle is loaded to the max as well, this will slow him a bit.

    it'll do it...

as above you'll hold 100 on the flat but loose speed in headwind and on hills

...And so whats the rush??? 90 to 95 is fast enough full of gear. Scenery is quite pleasant also when it isn't a blur

I must admit 100km/h feels better especially when you have 900+km to do in a day, BUT really you'll only be about 45 minutes late AND I guarantee even pushed hard it'll still use the least fuel of all

I just towed my boat, which is loaded to the hilt- I'd say 1.5 tonne all up, to South Gippsland & it sits happily on 100kl/hr ( its a 4 speed) & drops back just a bit on minor hills, but I hardly - once I think- changed down on the bigger hills. 4 people & 2 labradors in the vehicle & junk.
I have turned out the fuel screw a half turn, but still got 9.5 klm/litre.

Mine is Turboed but is sweetest between 80 to 90 kmh wile towing in forth gear. Any quicker is heading out of its best torque curve. Id imagine the NA to be similar with a bit less indurance in the hills.

they are slow but cheap... but not the slowest around

i pull a trailer much of the time and even with a turbo you need patience.

that said i followed a tdi nissann yesterday hauling a similar trailer and the look on his face as i sailed past him on an uphill section of the di'agular hwy was priceless.

then i was stuck behind another further along the road for ages

then someone in a very very very nice grey hse rangey went sailing past me at full noise and after the jealousy subsided i was content in the knowledge that i was getting buckets load better economy than they were...

Just be thankful it wasn't someone in a diesel rangie sports. They would have sucked your doors off all while using 8.5l/100

Quite slow as I would imagine, even with the turbo.

Not too bad on the flats but climbing hills and fully laidened is going to be a slow and noisy ride. I used to just turn the music up while the missus was desperately searching for the earmuffs.

    Good fuel economy though.

The V8's are better but thirsty.
