						Anyone know where is the line to change idle speed ?
From personal experience,
I use a DTUK power chip, the type that plugs into the harness(in for about 2 years now). I also know directly of a fellow that has had a similar type power chip(different brand) that plugs into the harness of his TD5 Defender, which has been installed for a lot more years than what I have had mine for.Both vehicles have had no issues ( that is, the motors have not needed to be replaced or reconditioned)and they have not fallen out of the car either.
I have found that the only people that bag these 'plug in' power chips are:
1) People trying to sell you another product or send you to a mate who sells another product.
2) Powerchip sellers bagging other powerchip sellers in the hope that you will purchase their product instead.
I can speak highly of the DTUK power chip. Combine that with an EGT guage and sender from Auber instruments in the USA and you have reasonably cheap power upgrade and engine monitoring thrown in.

I fail to see how a second rate option that costs two to three times as much as a proper ECU remap and gives at best a 10% increase is a 'relatively cheap' option. But then chip manufacturers know all about fuel injection too don't they as much as all those who buy the chips...

I had my DTUK plug in chip delivered to my doorstep within 10 days of purchase for(it was a while ago) about $550, plus about another $100 for the Auber instrumnets EGT and sensor.
I dont understand the 2 to 3 times the cost you speak of....shop around a bit and you get some good deals.
They are adustable over 7 or 8 settings, from economy up to power...An upgraded ECU has absolutely no adjustment. I takes about 5 mins to make a power setting change(that incudes lifting and closing the bonnet) It can be adjusted for driving around town(economy) or towing(power).I have the EGT set with an audible alarm for easy monitoring.
I say the DTUK plug in chip is good. I've done 85,000Km on the chip now(222,000Km total for the vehicle) and my TD5 has not died or fallen out of the vehicle
10 % ??....Dreamin, definitely more (no ISO standards involved).

There are a few posts warning about EGT after chipping. I stumbled across this product out of South Africa called EMS2. An electronic unit that monitors water temp, oil temp, EGT, coolant level, voltage, oil pressure (or boost pressure). For extra you can buy a kit with all the sensors and wiring harness. Best of all it includes a EGR blanking plate with the plate drilled to capture the probe. It works out to be about $500 for the unit and kit. Can't come close to that price if you bought sensors and gauges individually. Not to mention the dash looking like the cockpit of a 747.
