Well Land Rover ZA put the M52 engine into the Defender.

Personally I think the M60B40 would have been more appropriate, but that's just my opinion............

How do you figure that? I'd rather be replacing PCVs, pulleys, tentioners, cam and crank angle sensors. Than doing all that plus head gaskets, rocker covers and the timing chain assemblies. Esp for a 4L V8 that's unimpressive, stock.

    It was just an opinion.

More CC, but I wasn't aware that the 4L V8 was a dog. Seems to be reliable enough in the 540s and 740s I've seen.

I liked the idea of BMW 6 cyl petrol for the defender/Disco-the local 110 buyers had allsorts of drama with the small early diesels.

the repair cost compared to a good 6 was crazy.

from south african web sites you could calculate the running cost and the BMW would be a good LPG engine.

BUT-like the newer range rover V8 Ive done bucket loads or airconditioning repaires on medium mileage cars that had engine failures or sad engines.
regas a system and hoping it wont over heat or the oil fumes gas you out.

there is a reason that cheeper BMW cars are easy to recycle.

I didnt know why but wiki claims that american version have better engine blocks.I had plenty of customers over the years exchange cyl heads with the USA.
