    Modifying a fairey overdrive

    I heard that the Fairey overdrives get hot due to lack of oil capacity. Has anyone done a mod to add extra capacity. I am thinking of putting one in my Series 1 and had the idea of building a tank electric oil pump to add a bit more fluid .

    I remember someone running a tube with extra oil, but can't remember how it was done, or if it was pumped. The Toro overdrives I believe had a bigger oil capacity. The biggest problem was people using them like another transfer case. I used one in a LWB behind a healthy 202 with 35" tyres and never had a problem. If you have a Rover motor and don't tow a lot you should be fine.

    That would work as well tap in to case add tube possibly even a cooler . Convection would help it it circulate.

    There is a link on here somewhere about one being modified to hold a larger oil capacity, there are photographs as well!

    I have seen a few that put a resovoir(similar to the brake resovoir) and a hose.

    Don't think the little S1 engine will hurt it.
    Mine's been fitted since 1978, makes no more noise now than it did when I fitted it.

    Got one

    I just picked up a Faiery OD on Ebay. I have found a good small oil cooler and electric pump similar to a Porche Transmission cooler the pump can move 2.5 gallons a minute which may be a bit more than required. If i can find a slower pump i will use it.
