    I have seen a series split screen converted to a single piece. If you did not know it was done, it was not instantly obvious (and looked great IMO).

    The series windscreen frame is not the strongest, so the screen may crack under vehicle flex ?

    The Series windscreen frame is probably stronger than the Defender one, which has narrower, higher, pillars and is alloy not steel.

    If the split windscreen is retained when using a series ute cab, is there an issue with the wiper locations?

    The roof on the approx 8 inch extended cabs which were made for Land Rover in Australia have a join across them. Are probably made from wagon or double cab roofs with a piece cut out. After becoming used to the extended ute cab, I would not like a standard one. There would be a lot of work extending the cab below window level. However, above it, the main problem is extending the cab is making an extended roof from a much longer one cut back.


    Note how you can slide and/or lean the seat further back in a ute cab type LR when the cab is off. I remember seeing somewhere once - possibly in a pommy LR magazine how someone effectively just extended the top bit. Could have even been a kit for sale. Of course used a made up roof longer than standard. Included the standard back and corner window piece. However under the bottom of it was a flat piece of steel, aluminium checker plate or whatever to create a ledge above /behind the standard cab bottom and just below the back window. Re the sides just behind the doors, was also a piece the same width as the distance the corner /window piece was moved back.. Not sure what width they used. May have been eg 3 inches. Not wide enough to be worth putting window in as with extended cab. While at it could make this of heavy gauge steel - possibly box section so it could double as a strong pillar for better protection in a roll over.




    Anyway, seems to me that before you cut a long roof back to fit a ute, first step would be to design and make some bits to accommodate whatever length of high level extension you think appropriate after considering all the implications. Could add side windows as in extended cab if long enough. Would then have room for a shelf behind the seats even when they are leaned back as they would go. With a wide shelf here could consider what could be put outside the body underneath it.


    Remember for big blokes especially, it would be a big improvement being able to move seats slightly further back in a ute cab. When you have to shorten a long roof to fit on a ute, should make no difference to work or cost to make this ute cab roof longer than standard ones. Also, not a large amount involved to make the rear ledge and side pillars to accommodate it.

    No - the extra cab roofs were not rebuilt from wagon or a dual cab roofs....

    For those who don't want to cut roofs down they can use one of the roofs that Foleys currently sell to create an extra cab roof for the single cab 110/130 ?

    The earlier question was about cutting a roof down
