Thread: Turbines

I have fond memories of a huge comic collection when I was a kid in the 60's,
The usual collection of superheros, some pommy paper style ones and (who'd a thunk) some racing car ones,, and yes even off road comic strips,,
But one that stands out is about a character that raced Indy and in one strip complained bitterly about the turbines being too fast for him with a full fuel load,,
Being around 8 at the time I had no idea what a turbine was,, just that it had a strange bulge down one side of the car.

Then this morning I was watching a Vid about Parnelli Jones's Old Calhoun winning at indy in '67 and naturally they mentioned his non finish in '68 in a TURBINE car,,
and all these little bells started tinkling.
Its even the same colour!!
